Plastic boxes can be used and you can see the hedgehog feeding inside. You do need to make a tunnel with wood or bricks and a bigger box than the example is better as you can place a brick 13cm away from the hole across to stop a cat also.

It's very difficult for a cat to pull the dish out with its paw or get inside. Slightly bigger is better, several hedgehogs can get in and out or feed at the same time and room for several dishes of wet or dry food.

Feeding Stations

This is just a place where the dry hedgehog food or cat biscuits or wet food can be kept out of the rain, in a dish under cover.

The biggest difficulty is stopping cats eating the CAT food.

The hedgehog requires a 13cm hole to fit through. They have an amazing sense of smell and will find food left out. A tunnel made of bricks and small a slab, a pipe tunnel, a hole then a bend then a hole all may prevent cats from eating the food.

Many people have tried many ways and there are certain very persistent cats. You may have to change the type of food in that case. There are a few types of hedgehog food that cats won’ t eat you can buy on line.

If you get 8 house bricks and place them on the floor on their edge in a oblong shape then open a 13cm gap between the bricks at each side, put dishes of cat food in the middle then put a piece of wood, plastic, with a brick on top, slab, anything on the top you have a ground level feeder where the gap is big enough for a hog to go through and out the other side but its small enough so that a cat can ‘t pull a dish out with its paw.

A feed station can be positioned 13cm away from a tree or a building. As long as it’s heavy enough or you can put a large stone behind to prevent a cat from squeezing around a tight bend.

Feed stations need to be cleaned out regularly as they often use their feed station as a toilet. If wet food is given, the dish will need to be cleaned by the next day in order to maintain hygiene and to avoid flies.

Several shallow bowls of fresh water daily.
